Letter to Charles Bukowski

Dear Charles Bukowski,

 I read your poem "Dinosauria,We" and it really caught my attention since the start. In the start it says “As Mrs. Death laughs, As the elevators break, As political landscapes dissolve, As the supermarket bag boy holds a college degree”. Why did you put these examples together, why did you choose these examples? Were you trying to show how the world is cruel or was to show how the beginning of the end. Also I wanted to ask you why did you choose to say born like this instead of anything else, for example you could have said that we caused that instead of us being born into it. What do you mean when you said “The heart is blackened, the fingers reach for the throat”. What type of heart were you talking about, were you talking about the heart as in the organ or as the heart as in passion to accomplishing something. I like how you explain the present and then the future. In the future you predict a horrific end of the world which you don’t explain what happened. You do mention nuclear bombing and also diseases which could happen to be a zombie apocalypse. I like the comparison you made with Dante’s Inferno; this made me imagine how bad it would be living when this apocalypse is happening. I wanted to ask you what gave you the idea to write this poem the way it is. What gave you the idea of writing how the world is going to end? I ask this because I want to say that this poem was well written and the words had a great imagery it really made me imagine what you wrote. Thank you for writing this poem it was very interesting and I liked how you wrote it and your description t o the end of the world.

Father and Son

In the book we are reading in class, “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy, it talks about a father and son that are living thru a disaster that just happened in the world. They are trying to survive the cold winter and are trying to go south. Somethi9ng significant of this is that they are surviving with each other, but while surviving the “apocalypse” they dad does things with the child that he would have done if this hadn’t happened. For example, the child tells him to read books to him (while on their way to the south) and the dad says yes.

The father and son in this book have a really good relationship, even though the age of the child or the man is unknown. His dad is trying to raise him the same way he would have raised him if everything was ok. The father still wants the child to experience stuff. Like when man found a can of Coca Cola instead of him drinking it he tells the child to drink it. This also shows that the father cares about the child and not just ignores him. If the dad wouldn’t care about the child he would have not taken care of him and not let him have things that the father would maybe not see in his life no more.

This father and his son is a great example of how a father and son should treat each other. They both cared a lot of each other and will do anything for the other. In the book the kid tell the father “what would you do if I died?” the father answered “if you died I would want to die too.”. This shows how much they care about each other and how good a relationship do they have.

In class we read "sinners in the hands of an angry god by Jonathan Edwards, one of the most important puritans’ ministers in history. The reading was about how god punished sinning people when they make him angry, for example it shows how he holds increasing water that increases as he gets angry but he holds it and he would let it loose and flood everyone if he can't take no more. Also it showed how every time you sinned gods bow would bent the arrow, and point the arrow folder to your hearth until he has gotten enough then, swish. I think this Avery scary sermon for the ones hearing at the time. I think John Edwards intended to scare the people (the puritans) on purpose. He tried to change them to live without sinning. Which is impossible, but could have probably worked because of the fear they had in them since they taught it was true. They would think that because they didn’t know nothing then it was prohibited for them to write anything else than the bible.

There goes the neighborhood

Almost everyone knows that not everyone gets along with each other and that there is always going to be a conflict between people. I remember one time in my neighborhood when people didn’t get along and they always kept fighting till someone was forced to move out. I live by 24^th st and Damen ave a somewhat calm neighborhood in the middle of little village and pilsen. Someone had just moved in, in the apartment in front of my house. The apartment consisted of two floors and was owned by an old man that survived on the rent and what his sons gave him.

The guy that moved in was a twenty-six year old man with his wife and his five year old daughter. The people that already lived there were an active gang member that was already very problematic, with his girlfriend. So what happened was that after a month of the “new” people moving in there had already been many fights verbally between both of the men because of the gang member actions. One of the fights happened because of the gang member had a party in the weekend with really loud music that almost could be heard through the whole neighborhood. So the man angry because he couldn’t let him sleep so he went down and asked the guy but the guy was under the influence of alcohol and he also got angry so they started a brawl. This caused a big commotion in the neighborhood and the neighborhood convinced the owner of the apartment to take the gang member out of the house so they neighborhood could be safer.

Well this was something big that happened and this normally happens in every neighborhood when people come in that are very problematic in a calm neighborhood

Introductions

Hello my name is Javier Campos I am currently a sophomore in Whitney M. Young Magnet High School a selective enrollment school in Chicago. I was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but I have spent fourteen years (out of my fifteen) in Chicago.  I have three siblings two sisters and one brother, with me being the oldest. That’s one thing that I kind of not like of me, because it is a lot of responsibility and it does take a bunch of time. The good things about having brothers and sisters is that you have company, you have someone to fight with (not really, we just complain with each other), and because they can be a big help in everything almost always . Something that I like to do is playing sports, mainly soccer. I am currently in the J.V. soccer team in Whitney Young. Another thing that I would like to do is biking. I used to be in competitions when I was nine but it didn't, go that well.  So I hope I have a good school year, better than last one which went well but didn’t go how I expected, and I hope we have a good soccer season.
